Thread Lifts
As we age, our skin naturally loses some of its elasticity and firmness, which can lead to sagging, wrinkles and reduced definition in our face and neck. Thread lifts are a minimally invasive treatment option for those who wish to elevate and smooth loose skin without surgery. For a suitable candidate, a thread lift can provide an elegant solution to the natural progression of skin laxity and collagen loss.
During a thread lift procedure, small threads are inserted under the skin via blunt cannulas and to lift and tighten sagging tissues. The threads are made of biocompatible materials and dissolve over time, stimulating the production of collagen.

A Note From Dr Aleks
Thread lifts have become a true passion of mine over the years. I’ve had the privilege of performing this procedure on clients ranging from 30 to 79 years old, and I have also had them done myself. Having experienced thread lifting as both a doctor and a patient, I have a deep understanding of its benefits and limitations, as well as strategies for adapting the technique according to the needs of the individual.
I believe that the key to success with thread lifts lies in selecting the right patient and setting realistic expectations. During your consultation, I will take the time to understand your concerns and assess whether a thread lift is an appropriate option for you. My aim is to provide you with honest, personalised advice and develop a treatment plan you feel confident in.

What Is a Thread Lift?
A thread lift is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure designed to lift and tighten skin on the face, neck and body. Also known as a suture lift, this treatment involves the insertion of thin, biodegradable threads beneath the skin using a blunt-tipped cannula. These threads are strategically placed and anchored to reposition the skin, resulting in a smoother and more lifted appearance.
Thread lifts have gained popularity in recent years as a less invasive alternative to traditional facelift surgery. While a surgical facelift remains the most comprehensive solution for significant skin sagging and deep facial creases, a thread lift can provide noticeable improvements with less downtime and fewer potential complications.
How Does a Thread Lift Work?
A thread lift works in two ways.
The first is fairly straightforward. During the procedure, your doctor uses a cannula to guide the threads through the skin and into the underlying tissues. Once they are in place, your doctor pulls the threads and secures them into place. This action pulls your skin taut, creating a more lifted look.
The second function of a thread lift is to stimulate collagen production. Once a thread is inserted, it triggers your body’s healing response. Even though the threads do not cause an injury, your body detects the suture material and increases collagen production in the area. This may lead to ongoing improvements in skin elasticity.
The threads are made of biocompatible materials that gradually dissolve, leaving behind no permanent foreign substances in the body. The newly formed collagen network in the area helps to maintain the lift and improvements in skin texture and firmness.
The OLA Experience
Consultation
A comprehensive consultation is the first step of your treatment. Your doctor will assess your facial structure and skin quality, discuss your aesthetic goals and determine if a thread lift is a suitable course of action for you. This session is an opportunity for you to express your expectations and for us to provide a clear, realistic picture of what the procedure can achieve.
Preparation
If you decide to proceed with a thread lift, you will receive detailed pre-treatment instructions. These may include avoiding certain medications (such as blood thinners) or skincare products for a specified period before your procedure. You may also be advised to avoid smoking and minimise alcohol consumption to support the healing process.
Treatment
After administering local anaesthetic, your doctor will insert the threads using a cannula, carefully guiding them into the appropriate layers of skin and soft tissue. Once the threads are in place, your doctor will anchor and trim them, leaving no visible signs of the treatment on the skin surface. The procedure can take 45 to 60 minutes.
What Is the Average Downtime and Recovery?
One of the main advantages of a thread lift compared to facelift surgery is the relatively short downtime and recovery period. Most patients are able to return to their normal activities within a few days of the procedure. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least two, and ideally four, weeks.
After your thread lift, you may experience some swelling, bruising and tenderness in the treated areas. These side effects are normal and typically subside within a few days to a week. Your doctor may recommend applying cold compresses and taking over-the-counter pain medication to manage any discomfort.
It is important to note that while thread lifts have a shorter recovery time compared to surgery, individual experiences may vary. Some patients may require more time to fully heal and recover, depending on factors such as age, skin quality, lifestyle and the extent of the treatment.
What Results Can I Expect From My Thread Lift?
A thread lift can provide noticeable improvements in skin tightness and facial contouring. The treatment can also help to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
After a thread is inserted, you can see instant results because of the physical lifting effect. This effect begins to decrease around six to 12 months post-treatment as the sutures dissolve. However, there is a secondary effect through the collagen stimulation that may remain one to two years or more after the procedure.
A thread lift generally leaves no visible scars. Most patients experience only minimal puncture marks that heal quickly and are easily concealed with makeup.
The results can last up to two years, making thread lifts a relatively long-lasting and cost-effective option for nonsurgical facial rejuvenation.
Thread Lift FAQ
Is a thread lift painful?
Your comfort is one of our top priorities. Prior to your thread lift, a local anaesthetic will be administered. Most patients report feeling only light pressure or a slight tugging sensation during the procedure. After the treatment, you may experience some tenderness that can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication and cold compresses. Overall, most patients find the procedure to be quite tolerable.
What are the risks of thread lifting?
As with any cosmetic procedure, thread lifts carry some potential risks and side effects. These include but are not limited to:
Discomfort
Bruising
Infection
Snapping of threads
Inflammation and/or infection
Puckering (usually settling after one to two weeks)
Salivary gland injury
Visible sutures (especially in people with thin skin), rare and dependent on insertion technique
These risks are reduced when the procedure is performed by an experienced, qualified practitioner using high-quality threads. At OLA Aesthetics, only our doctors, Dr Aleks and Dr Indi, perform this treatment.
What types of threads do you use?
We offer two types of PDO threads. Our PDO Lifting threads are longer and feature tiny barbs that hook into the tissues. The gripping action provided by the barbs makes these threads good for lifting and tightening.
We also have PDO Mono threads, which are shorter and have a smooth surface. Smooth threads do not lift as significantly, but they are useful for triggering a collagen boost.
Can you feel threads in your face?
The threads are very thin, and they are placed beneath the skin's surface where they should not be visible. Immediately after your procedure, you may feel some tightness or a pulling sensation in the treated areas. These feelings typically subside within one to two weeks as your tissues adjust to the threads. In most cases, patients do not feel the threads in their face once the initial healing period has passed.
What is the pricing for a thread lift?
Your treatment plan will be tailored for your needs and preferences. During your initial consultation, your doctor will determine a suitable approach and provide you with a detailed quote. Our thread lifts start at $1500.
You may view our full price list here and additional pricing information on our FAQ page.
Could a Thread Lift Be Right for Me?
Thread lifts represent a middle ground, offering more significant and durable lift than noninvasive treatments but less than facelift surgery. You may be a good candidate for a thread lift if you:
Experience mild to moderate skin laxity in your face, neck or certain body areas
Wish for subtle yet visible lift and tightening without the risks and recovery time of surgery
Have sufficient skin quality and thickness
Have realistic expectations about the outcomes of minimally invasive procedures
Do not have health conditions that could impair healing or react negatively to the threads
Ultimately, the best way to determine whether a thread lift is right for you is to meet with one of our skilled doctors. During your consultation, your doctor will get to know you and work with you to develop a treatment plan.
